What is a distribution box

Expert Solution

The term Distribution box is used in two context one in electrical and one in chemical engineering,So I am explaining both, you can choose which one you require.

Talking about electrical engineering, the Distribution board or box is mainly our Main Switch Board(MCB) from where all the connections were supplied to other routes of home or office. In other words,a Distribution box is a component of an electricity supply system that divides an electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits, while providing a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each circuit in a common enclosure.

In context with chemical engineering,A distribution box is widely used for Waste water treatment processes. This Distribution box is basically a tank whose function is equivalent to distribution box used in electrical engineering. It basically divides the inlet flow to the drainfield in an equal amount. You might be knowing about the term Equalisation in context to waste water treatment process. This equalisation of different sewage streams is done in a particular tank so that all the steams get mixed into a single tank and because of this mixing ,they often reaches to a single uniform concentration of organic matter.SO after this they are passed into septic tank where the sludge materilas settles down and anaerobic decomposition takes place. However the middle part of this waste water has certain gradient in concentration.SO before sending this treated water to drainfield for irrigation purposes or some other purpose, they are passed to a drop box where these flows are mixed and again distributed in such a way that they reaches to a uniform concentration below the threshold limit and as such the gradient is concentration which exists in septic tank now diminishes.

Assume that you have a box of resistors that have a Gaussian distribution of resistances with mean µ = 100 Ω and standard deviation σ = 20 Ω (i.e., 20% resistors). Suppose that you wish to form a subgroup of resistors with µ = 100 Ω and standard deviation 5 Ω (i.e., 5% resistors) by selecting all resistors with resistance between the two limits r1 = µ−a and r2 = µ+a. (Apparently, you are too cheap to just order the...
