What is reliability and validity of measurement? Explain procedure for testing reliability and validity of survey instrument used in your research.
Reliability refers to the consistency of a measurement which means whenever the test is administered, it has the same results. It could be across population and time. It includes test retest reliability which means across different times, internal consistency which means across items and inter-rater reliability which means across different researchers. Validity on the other hand refers to a test’s ability to test what it intend to test which is to say does what it’s built for. There are different types of validity such as construct, face, content etc. for which a test should be checked. Whenever a test is built, it has to be tested over a period of time in order to test for its validity. Once validity is established, testing it for its reliability becomes very easy because if the test tests what it intends to test, it could be applied in different conditions.
