Cannabis sativa is generally a tall plant and has a lighter shade than that of other green plants. Its leaves are made up of long narrow blades. The foliage of sativa plant is somewhat sparser than that of other varities. This allows more air flow around and between the plantsplants, resulting in healthier growth and less risk of fungus.

Physical characteristics of cannabis sativa can be defined as they are are annual herbs which are usually erect and grow upto 4-5 meters tall when planted in the ground. They are angular, sometimes hollow and are stipulate, have a long petiole donot grow singly. The leaflets are upto 10-12cm long and 1.5cm broad and the flowers are monoceious or dioceous. They bear nearly about 100 seeds at a time and each seed weighing around 1.5 - 2.5 grams. The serious feature found in cannabis sativa is their long flowering stage and sativas are very resistant to molds but are weak against insect attacks.
