Expert Solution

Impedance conversion :

Impedance is the measure of the total opposition that a circuit or a part of a circuit presents to electric current. It includes both components of opposition-resistance and reactance. It is measured in ohms and symbolized by Z. Impedance is a vector quantity consisting of two independent scalar quantity : resistance and reactance. Now, impedance conversion is a method of electric circuit design in which one component provides power to another, and the output circuit of the first component has the same impedance as the input circuit of the second component. The maximum power theorem proves that maximum power is transferred from source to load when the load resistance equals the source resistance and the load reactance equals the negative of the source reactance that means maximum power transfer can be achieved when the impedances in both circuits are exactly the same.

Importance of impedance conversion :

  • By using this technique maximum power transfer can be achieved. If there is an impedance mismatch between the source and the load, there will not be maximum transfer of the power or the energy.
  • Impedance matching is necessary wherever there is a need to transmit the power efficiently.  This technique is used to the design the power lines, transformers, and signal-processing devices such as audio and computer circuits.
