Circumcision is a surgical procedure in which the foreskin of the male repiroductive organ is removed.

55% to 65% of all newborns are circumcised each year in united states. In some communities or in religions it is compulsory to performe circumsion as a religious ceremony. But it is also performed in communities where circumcision is not mandatory.

Medical benefits of circumcision:

1. Reduced risk for urinary tract infection (UTI): UTIs are common in children during the first five years of life and it can result in renal damage do to retrograde infection. UTIs are more less common in circumcised children. Dr. Brain Morris, Professor Emeritus in the school of Medical sciences, University of Sydney and his colleagues in the united States found out that half of the uncircumcised male contract an adverse medical condition caused by foreskin, during their life time.

2. Reduced chances for penile cancer: in circumcised children chance of penile cancer is low.

3. Decreased chances for sexually transmitted diseases (STD): some studies have evidenced that HIV infections and other STDs are less in circumcised persons. The national health and social life survey indicate this benefits in their recent studies. A systemic review of 26 studies found out that circumcised men are at lower risk for Syphilis and Chancroid.

4. Decreased penil problems: local inflammation, irritation or infection is less in circumcised children.

Sociocultural benefits:

1. Religious practice: In muslim and Jewish communities it is a mandatory procedure. They perform this procedure in order to maintain health and hygiene and to show faith in God

2. Reduce Masturbation: by this procedure we can reduce masturbation in males which is not acceptable in society

3. Look alike: according to our cultural and social practices, most children follows their parents values and beliefs. The child develop a "We" feeling in the society. So it is good to perform circumcision if their father performed the same.

Conclusion:

Circumcison is a less complicated procedure with both medical and sociocultural benefits. The risk of this procedure is comparitively very low compared to its benefits. We are living in a society where people believe that "Prevention is better than cure" . So I strongly believe circumcision is a good decision.
