We started class with an overview of ancient schools of Greek thought, and we are finishing with the branching out of psychological science from the basic schools of thought that it had established by 1970 or so (Humanistic, Behavioral, Psychoanalytical, and Cognitive). Please match these major areas of psychology to the early Greek thinkers (Plato, Homer, Aristotle, and Heraclitus). Include in your response the ideas of personality differences, cognitive processing, etc.... how did each of the major schools of thought shape psychology as a discipline? What is their current status within the field? **The major areas of psychology are Humanistic, Behavioral, Psychoanalytical, and Cognitive.

Psycho-analytical - Heraclitus .

Every person have their distinict personlality which helps to develop their social , moral , cognitive and emotionl develoment . Personlality diffrence means diffrent people have different capablity , thinking pattern and critical ability .
Cognitive process means information processing . In cognitive process , person manipulate abstract concept and store the information in memory and retain large amount of information.

Psychology owes its origin to philisophy .later psychologist attempted sceintific approch to the study of human behaviour . These efforts give birth to a number of schools or system of psychology Such as , Funtionlism , behaviourism , psycho-analysis
Structuralism :
Wilhelm Wundt , a Germany proffesor was mainly responsible for the evolution of this school of Psychology . He opened the world ' first Psychological laboratory in Leipzig in 1879 with the sole purpose of systematic study of the mind . For this , he focused on one's thought , feeling , sensation , perception and ideas .
Funtionlism:
William james , the father of psychology in U.S.A is regarded as pionner of the funtional school of Psychology. Strongly influennce by the Darwinian theory and his own interest in anatomy , physiology , and medicine . He adopted biological approch to study of mind . He claimed that concious can not be separated .
BEHAVIOURISM :
John B watson put forward an entirely new doctrine , named behaviourism which was quite contrary to structuralism and Funtionlism . He stated that conciousness can not be studied sceintifically . So if we want to make psychology sceince behaviour , we should only focus on observable and meusarable behaviour .
psycho-analysist :
It was main propounder was sigmued Frued . The influennce of psycho- ananalysis in terms of totality of behaviour including concious , sub-concious and unconcious . Structure of psyche , the concept of repression . The psycho-sextual develoment and giving sex as right place always remain praise worthy and memorable .
Today current trend of psychology is humanistic Psychology abraham maslow , Carl Rogers etc who given more value to human potential and achieving goal in life . Transpersonal Psychology , cognitive Psychology , gestalt Psychology are new trends of Psychology discipline and it's emergedly expanded .
