When you set up your first Windows 2016 server and configure it as a domain, there are a few things to consider. There are points where it is relatively easy at points, as you just answer a few questions like what language you use, your keyboard, etc. At other points, it becomes more involved. what do you think would be a good name for your server(s) and why? What about server password security? What are some things to consider when setting that up? Do you think it is important to have different security levels on servers versus workstations and why? Will you use DHCP or hard-coded IPs for Servers? Workstations? Why?

When you set up your first Windows 2016 server and configure it as a domain, there are few things to consider. there are points where it is relatively easy at points, as you just answer a few question like what language you use, your keboard etc.- What do you think would be good name for your server and why --

  • The name of the server should be based on their role.
  • The good name of server can be "www.expressionworld.com"
  • here "www" means server is linked to world wide web.
  • "expressionworld" is unique name of your server and ".com" means that the server is engaged with commercial acivity.
  • The domian name can be used as identifier image of the server.

What about server password security and things to consider when setting that up --

  • About server password security and things to consider -- do not allow default or empty password. the minimum password length and complexity should be defined.
  • The passphrase -- should be use for server password, it helps to evaluate sever security.
  • The main important feature of server passphrase is that it contain spaces between words.
  • For example -- password passphrase can be like this -- ilove%toMakeFoodAt5263mainDt.
  • The password of above example is longer than usual password. and it contains upper and lower case, numbers and unique characters. and it is more difficult to crack.
  • Set password expiration policy -- set expiration date for password is very important for user. this level of security required, password that may last couple of weeks and couple of months.
  • The session timeout for inactivity and enable two factor authentication.

Do you think it is important to have different security levels on servers versus workstation and why --

  • The server fulfill client server task and workstation fulfill daily task of employees like send email, draft presentation, and perform administrative task.
  • Server is software and hardware that stroe data, fulfill client request, manage network resources.
  • Workstation is laptop and pc that perform complex and technical tasks like detailed analysis and digital content creation.
  • Server has many forms like application, mail, proxy, web, FTP, and telnet servers.
  • Design of workstation is for hiigh performance video production, software development, database managment, engineering, and audio recording.
  • By thinking as server manager of corporation, responsible for facilitating services and communication with other offices.
  • In workstation include individual team manager and their responsibility os to perform critical daily tasks.
  • Server contains more holistic communication driven role and workstation fulfills more specialized function.

Will you use DHCP or hard coded IPs for severs and workstation and why --

  • DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. by using DHCP, you need to set up NT server as DHCP server and give range of IP address to assign.
  • Some server need for static IP address but it is also perfectly acceptable for workstation to use dynamic IP address.
  • Static IP address on workstation is feasable on small networks.
  • DHCP services palce small burden on server and DHCP services can also run on existing servers.
  • The common type of DHCP server is router with built in DHCP services. for example -- WiFi services are available at any electronic store at low price.
