Timothy has been working as a senior accountant in Dell Headquarter for 10 years. He has multitude of responsibilities, including: Examining bank statements and reconciling them with general ledger entries Examining expenses submitted by employees Keeping an eye on incoming payments from accounts receivable and outgoing payments from accounts payable Creating company financial reports with the above information included Analysing data collected in order to determine the state of the company’s financial health Leading a group of accountants from different departments and always OT during peak seasons.
(a) Use Holland’s theory on vocational personality and work environment to identify what type of people are more suitable to be an accountant and elaborate three reasons. (Make use of the RIASEC scale as an example to answer this question).
(b) Use the big five theory to explain the personality of a successful accountant might be.
(c) Accountants working in a big company (e.g., Dell) often encounter mismatch between receivable and outgoing payments when monitoring the finance in different departments of a company. What problem solving strategy can be used and why?
(d) Timothy has been working as a senior accountant in Dell Headquarter for 10 years. He is always anxious as a leader of accountants. Use the humanists’ theory of personality to explain his anxiety.
(e) Following 1d, Timothy wants to build self-determination in his team. Make three suggestions for him.
a) Hollands theory:
JOHN HOLLAND an American psychologist's theory of carrier choice . to use some of the most coomon tools to understand personality of individuals in work area and to match the work environment based on their personality types. based on the theory of six personality types: (RIASEC). vocational personality and work environment lets an individual to explore and help in making decisions based on their intrest and personality. this theory incorporates carrer- development, research, empowerment and longetivity.
Enterprising is most suitable for people who are in the position or who fit for the work of an accountant.highly skilled people.
three reasons based on the theory on vocational personality and work environment:
1. people with this personality trait love to met new people, they are more extrovert. they like to talk to people and are more of an influencers. they socialise. they like to be well organised,structured and be in an orderly fashion.
2. they like to question and fins solutions , they love to answere and find new ways to solve an issue.they like to be experimental and calculative.
3. they are logical thinkers, love to write and experiment,formulate,calculate and competetive, quick in making decisions and love to be on the go always.
examples : a person is passonate about reading, looks for an job and works in library. we are well aware of how a library is well-organised and has a structure to it. this type of people with intrest in being well-organised, knowledgeable, likes things to be kept in order and are well aware of the things around them.
