Based on information in Carol Dweck’s video, how can understanding growth and fixed mindsets impact your learning? Respond in 50 to 175 words by providing details and examples of what you can do in your daily studies. (If you would like additional information on these terms, feel free to read the Week 2 Electronic Reserve Readings.)
The years of research of Carol Dweck gives the insight why some people get stuck with what they believe and why some people move out of their circumstances, and develop skills and abilities that help them to be successful. These are termed as "fixed mindset"- the mindset that doubts one's own abilities and that makes one to stuck in the situation, and "growth mindset"- the mindset that believes in one's abilities and help to overcome the situation or the difficulty.
To have "growth mindset" first an foremost condition is to believe in oneself. For example-If I believe that poetry is really a boring stuff, then it would remain so for me. But on the contrary if I believe that poems are interesting, then I will begin to take heed in them. This will help me to explore the various aspects of poems and would help me to understand them better. This will motivate me internally to deepen my knowledge in poetry. It is necessary not to take my previous failures in understanding poetry as stumbling blocks then I would be in a fixed mindset and would not allowed to progress in poetry. But, when I take the failure as stepping stones and critically think the weak points in understanding the aspects of my learning in poetry, would help me gain interest in the topic and I would progress in it. However, one thing that should be kept in mind is that success may take several efforts and perseverance pays off well.
