Where do your taxes go? Does knowing this information make you happier paying taxes or would you prefer your tax money not go to some of these expenses, if so which ones and why?
The taxes we pay are used by the government to invest in infrastructure, technology, education and to provide goods and services for the benefit of the citizens of the country.
Few biggest categories of expenditures are:
1) Major health programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid.
2) Social security (Including defense)
3) Infrastructure & Technology such as roads, flyovers, etc.
4) Education
Knowing this information makes me happier paying taxes because of the following reasons:
1) Spending by the govt. in healthcare is utmost important, there is a huge number of people who don't have access to private hospitals, they would prefer govt. hospitals which are affordable, so ultimately this helps the economy and larger section of society
2) Infrastructure is very crucial for growth, it enriches the standard of living and generates employment.
3) Spending on education helps in building a human resource for the future, which is crucial for the economy in the long term
4) Also, social security is very important, defense plays a huge role in ensuring safety of the nation.
So, until the tax revenue is used for the betterment of life of people and economy, I would be happy to pay taxes.
