Program evaluation and review technique and Critical path method
both are useful for project management and scheduling the work. The
major steps involved in PERT are as follows
- Define the project and prepare the Work breakdown structure:-
In this phase properly define the objectives of project, important
milestone and work division for fulfilment of each milestone
activities
- Develop the realtionship:- This includes set of activities or
series of activities involve in a project and the inter
realtionship of it , interdependence of each activities over other
.
- Draw the basic network which connects all the activities:- this
helps in giving a visual representation of interconnected
activities, nodal points etc. This gives a proper idea about the
successor and predecessor of activities and how many parallel
activities are there .
- Assigning time and cost estimations:- This provides the time
require for each activity and the estimated cost for each. This
helps in evaluating the high cost and high time consuming
activities.
- Compute the longest path involves which is also called critical
path. This gives the important path which take longer time and any
delay in the critical path can delay the entire project deadlines
too.
- Make use of network to plan, schedule , monitor and control. :-
This is the final step of activities to properly plan , scheudule
and oversee the project progress abd contorlling it by putting
things on track by following the network diagrams.
