Sketch the main environmental controversies in Puerto Rico since the year 1965 to the year 2008.
Puerto Rico — Environmental crisis
Raw sewage is pouring into the rivers and reservoirs of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
People are without running water.
They bath and wash their clothes in contaminated streams, and some islanders have been drinking water from condemned wells.
Thousands of people still without running water, and 20 of the island’s 51 sewage treatment plants are not functioning , there are growing concerns about contamination and disease.
Puerto Rico has a long history of industrial pollution, and environmental problems have worsened due to neglect during a decade-long economic crisis.
One in four Puerto Ricans still lack access to reliable clean water.
The environmental health, waste, and pollution crises are not simply a result of the storm but they are a direct result of the island’s long-running energy crisis and financial crisis.
