1, summarize the three forms of aesthetic scanning.
2.Why is formalistic scanning an important aesthetic skill?
1). Asthetic scanning is a way of approaching an art to understand it's asthetic values, for a deeper meaning and understanding of the process of making an art and the emotions or messages it portrays. Through this approach people can touch every aspect of the art step by step.
There are basically four forms or properties of asthetic scanning and they are Sensory ( descriptive) properties, formal ( analysis) property, expressive ( interpretation) property, technical (judgement) properties. Now let us define and discuss three forms of asthetic scanning below:-
i). Sensory (descriptive) property :- In this part of asthetic scanning, as the name suggests, the talk is focused on the description of basics of the art that is, the art element of the lines, shapes, texture and colour. It also includes the intensity of light and dark or how deep or shallow space is used. This can be further understood through some questioning and answering such as, what shapes do you see, is there a dark colour or light color, or how deep is the perspective etc.
ii). Expressive (interpretation) property :- In this form of asthetic scanning the feeling, mood and philosophical concepts of the art being studied is discussed. For example, is the painting sad or happy or indifferent, what is the artist trying to say through his art, how does the art make you feel etc.
iii). Technical (judgement) property :- Again as the name suggests, it's a technical approach towards understanding art. It focuses on the techniques used while creating the art. Such as the medium used for example, water color or oil color or acrylic paint etc. And the tools used as, brush, pencil, camera, pen, ink etc. And finally the method used, drawing, or printing or photography etc.
2). Formalistic (analysis) scanning is analysing how the art is organized. It anlysises if some shapes are repeated, or the rythym, or the contrast of colors etc. It can involve some questioning and answering such as, is one shape repeated here, is one thing more important than other in the art being studied, etc. It's an important step before the critism of an art. It's an indispensible part of asthetic scanning. Without this form the asthetic scanning can not be completed. Therefore formalistic scanning is an important asthetic skill.
