In 200 words or more, Explain the relevance and dynamics of the Stage Development framework through the work of Robert Keegan.
,
Robert Keegan suggests five stages of development such as Incorporative, Impulsive, Imperial, Interpersonal and Institutional. During the first stage the child do not have any basic awareness as it responds to the stimuli that are presented. There is no self-consciousness or awareness about the environment. During the second stage the child acts impulsively. It strives to satisfy the needs that arise thus the child is able to look for some responses to its needs such as sleep, hunger etc. The third stage is marked by imperial self which refers to the child’s awareness of the self and the understanding that his self needs something thus manipulating others to get things done. In the fourth stage, the child understands that others also has needs and that the child shouldn’t strive to satisfy only its needs. In the final stage, the child understands and strive to live according to the rules and norms of the society. It tries to practice doing to others what it expects others to do for it thus becoming more morally obliged person. These five stages makes sense of one’s moral development but the age at which each occurs is not specific besides each culture has its own moral and ethical standards which would speed up or delay the process of achieving the stages.
