Please re-watch the video posted on moodle under topic 9 titled 'Principles of Persuasion'. Think of examples from your own experience when you had used a few of these chosen principles and share them with the class. The art of persuasion also includes managing conflict. What would you consider to be the qualities of a leader who manages conflict effectively?
The qualities I believe a leader should possess for effectively managing the conflict:
1. Listen with empathy and respect: The first quality which a person or a manager should possess is effective communicating skills with empathy and respect. You should understand that if somebody is having a problem, you should be empathic about the problems and understand the reason why and how this problem is arriving.
2. Allow others to express their concerns: The second quality a manager would have would be an effective listener. He/She should possess the qualities of making someone express their concerns and problems about how the other person is feeling and what is making the conflict cause.
3. Look deeper, beyond what is being said, to understand the real meaning: The third quality would be the effective decision making analysis made. The leader should be effective about the quality about analysing and evaluating the problems and the causes. One should dig deep inside the reason and critically analyse the various real reasons about it.
4. Be self-reflective and accountable—acknowledge if you are at fault: The fourth quality about the effective leader to handle conflicts is self reflective and accountsble about the decisions and the reasons you have caused. Many a times you should make people understand that if they are the reason behind a conflict, they should take a responsibility and be accountable about it.
5. Express emotions in a positive way—to encourage understanding and conflict resolution: At last, the last quality of a manager for effectively solving the conflicts would be a good motivational and leadership qualities and using positive enforcements as a technique. Solving the conflicts in a positive manner would help them be reasonable and have a healthy relationship even after a conflict resolution.
