Why do ethical people sometimes choose to behave
unethically in business organizations?

Ethics means moral principles demonstrated by an individual such as fairness, integrity, etc. Ethical principals are very important in a business situation. All employees working in an organization are expected to behave in an ethical manner in all the aspects of a business. It helps a business concern in maintaining its reputation and goodwill. Legal issues can be reduced to a minimum level by the effective demonstration of ethical and moral principles. It will act as guidance to everyone working in an organization. Many companies have published ethics policies to be followed by its employees.
Sometimes an ethical person may choose to behave unethically in business organizations. Unfair treatment or resentment feelings are the major reason that can provoke ethical people to think unethically Measuring business results and performance without considering how it is achieved may also prompt people to behave unethically. Unethical behavior from the part of superiors is a significant factor that can influence the subordinates to behave unethically. A person could compromise on ethical principles for the achievement of his or her career goals too. Peer pressure and pressure to meet deadlines and expectations can also drive a person to venture into unethical behaviors.
Lack of code of ethics is the major reason that may lead the ethical persons to behave unethically. So it is very important for an organization to make an ethical code of conduct. Also, organizations must recognize and reward ethical employees for their contributions. All the superior employees must exhibit exemplary behavior in this regard, which will definitely influence the behavior of all employees working in an organization.
