why a school choice program would benefit our nations poorest communities?
School choice has become an increasingly popular phenomena over the recent years. To allow school choice would mean that it wouldn't be based on the income of the family or the ability of the family to buy home in a wealthy neighbourhood, if a child is to get quality education. As a result of this, the ingrained discrimination that children might feel after getting into colleges, could be avoided. There are a number of reasons why school choice would benefit our country, which are as follows:
- it would be good for the safety of students. Parents who have been seen to be opting for school choice have often listed the safety of a school as its primary criteria. Schools with lesser violence are often opted.
- once the child is able to escape
communities where violence or activities such as bullying or gang
formation is avoided, the conditioning of the child and his peer
influence will be better. This would also help in reducing the
overall crime rate of a particular area or a community.
- also, since, the parent is choosing the school for their child,
they would be able to be more involved in their child's education.
This also increases the overall satisfaction level that a parent
might have from their child's education.
- the child would be able to get education that would suit his
needs. There is a wide range of learning abilities in the children,
ranging from gifted, to intellectually disabled to normal. Some
students might be fast learners, whereas, some require their time.
Choosing the school would mean that the teacher would be paying
attention to the child , in greater sense, to make him understand
concepts in his ways.
- most importantly, it breaks the circle of poverty. Families with
low income who cannot afford to buy houses in costly neighbourhood,
would not have to sit back when quality education and access for
their kids is in question. many times it has been seen that the
parents save for their child's education. Sending the child to a
better school would mean that quality education would be imparted
time the child. That would also mean that he would look for better
opportunities for himself, better job options, and thus breaking
the circle of poverty.
