CURRENT PROCEDUAL TERMINOLOGY-2021

-It is a set of course description and guidelines intended to describe procedures and services performed by physician and other healthcare providers.

-The procedures is defined with a 5 digit code.The ctp manual is updated annually by the American medical association and the pain management professional speciality societies contribute to CTP codes.

-There are extensive service and procedure coding requirement published in the CTP manual.providers are responsible for knowing how to accurately report and document CPT codes for the services rendered.

Categories:

There are three categories of CDP codes.

a) category 1 CPT codes:

It describe a procedure or service defend with a 5 digit numeric CPT code.

b) category 2 codes:

It include 5 digit codes with four codes numbers and ending with the letter F.They are intended to facilitate data collection on positive health outcome and quality patient care.

c) Category 3 codes:

It include 5 digit codes with four numbers but the ending with the letter T ,It facilitated data collection and assessment of new services and procedures.

CTP-2020:

-The version of CTP 2020 was available in both a standard edition and professional edition.

-Ctp coding is similar to ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding,except that it identifies the services rendered rather than the diagnosis on the claim.The ICD codes contain procedures codes but there are only used it in the inpatient settings.

-CTP is currently identified by the centres of medical care and medicaid services as level one of the healthcare common procedure coding system.

CTP-2021 and NEW UPDATES

​​​​​​New CTP codes ranging from 99201-99215 are proposed for adopting by the centres of Medicare on January 1, 2021.

New changes including:

-Eliminating history collection and physical examination as element for code selection.

-Allowing physician to choose the best patient care by permitting court level selection based on medical decision making.

-Promoting prayer consistency of the more detail added to CPT codes descriptors and guidelines.
