The drying rate needed for the ceramic projects is dependent on many factors and varies according to the following distribution.
Minutes | Relative Frequency |
3 | .14 |
4 | .30 |
5 | .27 |
6 | .18 |
7 | .11 |
a. Compute the mean drying time. b. Using these random numbers, simulate the drying time for 12 projects. .33 .09 .19 .81 .12 .88 .53 .95 .77 .61 .91 .47 c. What is the average drying time for the 12 projects you simulated? |

Answer a) First, prepare the following table:
Where x = Minutes, and f(x) = Relative Frequency
Mean Drying Time = = 4.82 / 1= 4.82 Minutes
Answer b) Here, first, find the interval for random numbers as calculated in the below table:
Where x = Minutes, and f(x) = Relative Frequency, and cf(x) = Cumulative Frequency
Now, start stimulating the drying time for each of the 12 projects, one by one, as mentioned below:
First, 0.33 Random No. belongs to an interval of 0.14 to 0.44. So, its drying time = 4 Minutes
Second, 0.09 Random No. belongs to an interval of < 0.14. So, its drying time = 3 Minutes.
Similarly, find the drying time for all the 12 projects.
Hence, we get the following table:
Answer c) First, prepare the following table:
Where x = Minutes, and f(x) = Relative Frequency (Number)
Average Drying Time = = 38.35 / 6.66 = 5.7868 Minutes (Rounded to 4 Decimals)
