Activity 2. Now that you know the essential terms in climate and biodiversity, let us try to check your understanding of these terms. In the space provided, differentiate the following:
1. Deciduous forest from evergreen forest.
2. Woodland from shrubland
3. Tropical rainforest from tropical seasonal forest
4. Savanna from thornwood
5. Weather and climate
Explanation:-
1. Decidous forest consists of decidous trees and shed their leaves seasonally . Soil has high amounts of nutrients e.g oak, maple etc
Evergreen forests consists of evergreen trees and they don't shed their leaves seasonally. Soil contains less amount nutrients e.g conifers.
2:- woodland is type of forest they have open canopy and act as transition zone between different ecosystems. Whereas shrubland is a vegetation dominated by shrubs.
3.Tropical rainforests are biomes characterised by high rainfall throughout year and evergreeb leaves . They are the most diverse biomes with high amount of Biodiversity. Whereas tropical seasonal forests also called moist decidous forests occur in places with dry seasons and shed their leaves.
4:-Savanna are open canopy grasslands with scattered trees. Thornwood are forest of thorns that protect them from herbivores.
5. Weather is the daily condition of atmosphere. Whereas climate is the average weather of a region over period of 10yrs.
