In 150 words or more, what are at least two cultural limitations associated with assessment and treatment? In your response, discuss the use or misuse of assessment instruments, therapy techniques, research results, or any other facet of clinical practice that could have potentially harmful, culture-specific implications.
.Any form of treatment that may be given to the patient, or counseling or anything of this nature may be considered inappropriate if the psychologist did not consider the patient’s background culture. Every person is different and there are many different cultures, therefor it is very important that a psychologist is competent when it comes to the patient’s culture. Some form of advice or treatment may be considered appropriate in one culture, but may be considered inappropriate in another culture. According to Plante (2011), there are behavior problems that may require a culture specific form of therapeutic design in order for the treatment to be effective. When doing research of psychological studies a medical professional must be doing research that is relevant and appropriate in nature. For example if a psychologist a patient who is Native American then research being conducted on psychological disorders of Caucasian people would not be the most appropriate of conducting the research. Cultural limitations have to be taken into consideration in order for the treatment to be design in a way that would be most beneficial for the patient, generalizing everyone into one category will not be an effective way to treat people and would be a misuse of assessment instruments.
