In general psychology and even popular culture today, there are a number of concepts that are based in Freudian theory that many do not realize stem from him. Identify a few ideas and terms that can be traced back to Freud.
Freudian Slip: Freudian slip is speaking out, behaving unintentionally due to some unconscious wish or thought. In common language, we call this as slip of the tongue, when unconsciously we say things we really mean deep inside.
Rationalisation: This defence mechanism is trying to explain or rationalise conflicting and inappropriate behaviours. In general terms we use rationalising to refer to when some one tries to justify unacceptable behaviour, so that it does not cause anxiety.
Ego: In Freudian terms, ego operates on the reality principle and regulates between the superego and the id. In general terms we use the word ego as the sense of ones self.
Displacement: Displacement is the defence mechanism in which a person displaces their feelings not on the source but instead on some other person.
Repression: Repression is suppressing ones desires or feelings into the unconscious so that it do not cause anxiety to the person.
