guidelines for Americans and food guide pyramid meet or do meet
these principles.
Principles of Diet Planning:
There are Six basic principles of Diet Planning, which are described as follow:
1. Adequacy: Adequacy means providing adequat or suffient amount of nutrients of all categories, eg iron, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fats etc. which are important to maintain good health of a person.
2. Balance: Eat variety of food to ensure the intake of all type of nutrients. For eg in excess amount of milk and milk products are taken and citrus fruits and vegetables are not taken, it may let to imbalance in nutrition.
3. Nutrition Density: it is a ratio or measure of nutient that is provided by food in comparision to enery in calories. Food with good nutrition density is the one which has more nutrition value than Calories. For example, soft drinks and Potato chips have high calories but gives very less amount of Nutrition, Hence there Nutition Density is bad.
4. Energy Control: This principle represents that calories intake must be taken care to maintain weight and Good health. To do so, Food with High Nutrition density and lesser calories must be included in the diet, however taking lesser calaries is also nt considered good for health.
5. Moderation: This principle is especially aplicable to Food rich in fats and sugars, while planning Diet these food must be included in moderation rather than eliminating it completely.
6. Variety: It is one of the most important principle of Diet planning beacuse it is not possible for any person to eat same food every day even if it is healthy, so ifvarietyof food is choosen from a food group of a particular nutrient to plan a diet, it will be easy for a person to follow the diet chart.
