1.)
Out of the five main population ecology characteristics, pick three of them and explain how they are relevant to the current Covid-19 crisis.
Identify three biomes with poor soil quality and explain why.
The five main population ecology characteristics are:
1. Population size and density: It is defined as the number of individuals per unit area or per unit volume of environment. Population density could be numerical density when the size of individuals in a population is uniform. eg, mammals, birds or, biomass density when the size of individual is variable.eg trees
Population density is classified into Crude density and Ecological density according to the Patterns of dispersion of organisms in nature. As the no. of people per sq km arises, it becomes even more difficult for getting proper infrastructure and proper adequate medical facilities or sanitations, thus insecure of any diseases like Covind-19.
2. Population dispersion or spatial distribution: Dispersion is occupying space(spatial) pattern of individuals in a population being relative to each other.
There are three basic population distribution on the basis of various biotic interactions and influence of abiotic factors. They are a) Regular dispersion b) Random dispersion c) Clumped dispersion. The people are given their own individual spaces, if not kept in proper condition or the surrounding is polluted, then there are greater chances of getting ill.Sometimes the government also allocate the poor people improper space or housing making them open up to the diseases like Covind-19.
3. Age structure: Proportion of individuals in the different age group is defined as age structure. The age structure determines the current reproductive status in a population. There are three major ecological age structure. These are pre-reproductive,reproductive and post-reproductive. The duration of the age groups in comparison to the life span varies greatly with various different organisms.Depending upon the age groups, some age groups under the senior or adult category might have lower immunity ,thus surrounding themselves with higher probality of getting infected. It even applies to the children and youths too.
The three biomes with poor soil quality are:
1. Tropical rainforest biome: tropical rainforest has low soil quality ,has high avg temparature and even high annual rainfall and also rich in different species. It has low soil quality as the heat and humidity cause rapid decomposition in the manner that little organic matter gather up in the soil.
2. Tundra: It has a very cold often dry climate but with permanently frozen grounds which creates saturated soils(during summer months) and is mostly at higher elevation.
3.Taiga or boreal forest: It has cold winter season with heavy snow and thus, low soil quality though have longer growing season than tundra.
