Big Fish is basically a movie. It involves the elements of fantasy and drama. It is mainly based on a novel. Novel's name is also same i.e. "Big Fish". Edward Bloom is the author of this novel. He was gifted with a talent of storytelling.
This movie talks about various dimensions of father-son relationship. It also presents different different perspectives of what is real and what non real. It tries to draw a line between reality, non reality and partial reality.
Big fish basically symbolizes something which is immortal. It tries to denote the fact that when fish becomes bigger and bigger then it leaves the small pond and swims to some other place where it can survive till infinity. Various elements of myths are also involved in this movie.
