  • Difference in opinion to deal with the opponent

  • Favourism to particular teammates by the leader or coach
  • Jealousy
  • Lack of coherence amongst the players
  • Social loafing

  • Inability to fulfill responsibilities by some players
  • Non-homogeneous team values and goals

Strategies to avoid groupthink in a sports team:

  • Establishing common norms for all may render a feeling of equal treatment in the teammates
  • Giving informal sanctions like rewards and punishments if necessary to avoid the feeling of favourism
  • Strong leadership display to discourage noncoherent behaviour and imcompatibility
  • Giving equal opportunity for all players to grow effectively in improving their game
  • Establisihing a strict conformity and collective efficacy to improve team performance
