use the word resistant to explain how hybridization can be useful ?
Ans. Hybridisation:- The act or process of mating organisms of different varieties or species to create a hybrid is called as hybridisation.
In hybridisation we will mate the two genetically diverse parents to obtain a progeny that has the desired trait.
Hybridisation may be of following types:-
1. Intravarietal hybridisation.
2. Intervarietal or intraspecific hybridisation.
3. Interspecific hybridisation.
4. Intergeneric hybridisation.
Hybridisation in relation to resistance:-
1.Hybridisation is widely used for the development of disease resistant varieties. By this method , a variety of susceptible to disease is artificially crossed with a variety having disease resistant.
2. Hybridisation is also used for the production of varieties that are resistant to the insect pest.
3. It is also used for the production of varieties that are resistant against the stress. A number of Gene's are identified that are resistant to heat, cold salt, heavy metals. They are being manipulated to produce stress resistant crop plants.
