As we covered in this module, there are two types of corrections: community-based and institutional corrections.
Select either community-based sanctions (probation, parole, post-release supervision, etc.) or institutional corrections (i.e., jails, prisons). Identify a policy or practice issue pertaining to your choice and evaluate the ethical challenges of that policy. Ensure that you use the ethical frameworks we identified in Week 1. Is there a conflict between ethics, public safety, and organizational need?
The Correction that I have selected is institutional correction(i.e. jail ,prison). I have selected Sexual Harrassement Workplace Act Of Women. It is a form of gender discrimination act which violates women fundamental rights to equality which is guaranted under article 14, 15 ,and 21 of Indian contitution. It is India's first legislation and it notified rules under POSH Act 2013 (Criminal Law Amendment Act). This policy according a personal veiw is cited to ethical challenges because the victims are only being prisoned for some consecutive years in a jail and they are being charged some fine for what they have done.It is not ethical because the women who have suffered such physical and mental constraints and tortures and the kind of penality that a committed person is getting is very minor for what he have done.. The other side of the same coin is that sometimes we find that women take undue advantages or priviledges that she is getting from a society. There are evidences where employee is women and the men is being victimized by the women, for example women are using physical contact or abusive act to victimize them . So for this act ,in our country there should neutral gender law to make ethical judgement.
Again there is a conflict between ethics, public safety and organizational need because for public safety and security laws are being put into practice , also for the demand of the organization and efficient and smooth functioning of the system but in this respect we see that women are getting more priviledges and they misusing their rights. So here we find a gender biasness and it leads to ehical challenges.
