CO6) What is the 97% confidence interval for a sample
of 104 soda cans that have a mean amount of 15.10 ounces and a
population standard deviation of 0.08 ounces?
@See text page 301
(15.940, 15.260)
(15.083, 15.117)
(15.020, 15.180)
(12.033, 12.067)
Solution :
Given that,
Point estimate = sample mean = = 15.10
Population standard deviation = = 0.08
Sample size = n = 104
At 97% confidence level the z is ,
= 1 - 97% = 1 - 0.97 = 0.03
/ 2 = 0.03 / 2 = 0.015
Z/2 = Z0.015 = 2.17
Margin of error = E = Z/2* ( /n)
= 2.17 * (0.08 / 104)
= 0.017
At 97% confidence interval estimate of the population mean is,
- E < < + E
15.10 - 0.083 < < 15.10 + 0.083
15.083 < < 15.117
