How does the recent use of the filibuster compare to how it was used in the the past? How might it be used in the future? Use details from the textbook to support your answer?
Explain the process of removing a president from office. What
role does the house of representatives play? What role does the
senate play?
Filibusters refer to the action of senate members to talk or discuss a topic or a bill in great detail to stall any progressive action in the assembly or parliament. This is often a stalling tactic that is used by ministers or parliament members to prevent the assembly from going ahead with a bill or an act which they don't support.
Throughout history and in present, the usage of filibusters has been the same. It is to prevent an act from becoming law by prolonged discussion. From senator Huey Long who spoke for 15 hours to President Wilson, there have been filibusters present in every era.
The usage of filibusters in the future will still be the same - to stall an act or bill from going ahead int the parliament. Also, it can be used by parties who are in the majority to save itself from answering reasonable questions by the opposition on issues such as integrity, governance, etc. Therefore, although lawful and technically correct, filibusters will be misused by parties in the future as well to forward their agendas.
