As culturally aware mental health counselors what components of the East/Southeastern Asian American culture: Japanese, Thai, Filipino, and Korean. (Not to be confused with South Asian Cultures that includes Indian, Nepal, and Pakistan etc.) Must we be mindful of in order to provide the best possible therapeutic outcome?
What social injustice does this (East/Southeastern Culture) face and what can be done to help advocate for change to provide social justice?
People all over the world are in America and it is a home to millions of people, however, some people face social injustice in our country. The society does not give them equal status which they deserve, as an example, people from East/Southeastern Asian face social injustice.
1. They are stereotyped in school, offices or at workplace.
2. If the child is in school or college, other children make fun of them because of their face structure.
3. They also face racism, Americans finds these Asian peoples are not made for American culture.
4.East/Southeastern Asian are thought to be same by many Americans, but all of them are not from one country, they are from different countries and have different culture.
5. They live in poverty, better education is not provided to them and they also face employment discrimination.
To counter these injustice we all can make a small move towards our society and educate the people who discriminate against these people. Education is the best move to this we can teach the people about harm full effect of social injustice. Teach our childhood that people are not bad. We can teach them about good and bad not to discriminate between people.
We can take a stand against the social injustice when they face in school, college, work place or at any place.
Give them equal status in the society as they deserve it.
