The individuality of any organism that makes each individual unique with variations in appearance of traits like eye color, ear shape or the number of fingers and toes is a result of which of the following?

1. The arrangement of the amino acids in the proteins of different individuals

2. All the choices are correct.

3. The sequence and order of the nucleotide bases in the DNA molecules of each individual

4. The differnces in some environmental factors

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans. (2) All the choices are correct.

The arrangement of nucleotides in DNA molecule detemines the amino acid sequences in polypeptide (proteins). Sequence of nucleotides in DNA is transcribed into mRNA, then mRNA is translated into peptides (proteins). These proteins control trait or character in human beings. Due to the diiference in nucleotide sequences in coding sequences of DNA, different polypeptides are produced due to difference in amino acids coded. Such differences in polypeptides is the cause of diiferences in appearance of characters (traits) among different individuals.Such different variants are resulted from genetic recombination due to meiosis during gamete formation. Not only differences in polypeptides (proteins), environmental factors also create differences in appearance of traits among individuals. For example, twin brothers having same genetic make up, one who live in colder region will have lighter skin colour than the one who live in hot tropic region. Hence, both differences at genetic level as well as environmental factors lead to variations in appearance of traits.
