4. What is meant by signal transduction? Which systems/structures do you possess that have evolved to afford you a selective advantage as a terrestrial organism? If you were a bull shark which additional sensory structures might you have which would be advantageous in an aquatic system? A moth or insect in the air?
signal transduction is known as cell signaling . it is the transmission of molecular signals from a cell,s exterior to its interior. signals received by cells must br transmitted effectively into the cell to ensure an appropriate response. this step is initiated by cell surface receptors.
terrestial animals use a variety of sensory channels ,or signal modalities for communication visual signals are very effective during the day. some visual signals are permanent advertisements
acoustic communication is also exceedingly abundent in nature, likelybecause sound can be adapted to a wide variety of environmental condition and behavioral situation.
sharks are master of seven sensory structures. in the ocean predators must have excellent senses to locate their distant or hidden prey. over 400 million years of evolution have witnessed the development of shark senses into high performance sensors. if i was a bull shark i would like to have most imprtantly electrosenses which are controled by its lorenzini ampoules.
