What practices do/will I seek to follow in my professional specialty to preserve my patient’s/client’s confidentiality? What standards do I personally hold, regardless of the practice of others, in the sharing of privileged patient information? Do these need to be upgraded?
What are the appropriate and ethical limits in my role as patient advocate? How would I explain or illustrate my answer?
1Q. All the healthcare professionals have to maintain the patient confidentiality, which includes their personal details, the tests ordered and the clinical condition. This information must not be discussed with the colleagues, friends, or the family members of the patient (without the patient’s consent).
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) established several privacy rules and regulations for healthcare professionals about the patient confidentially and transferring their information through electronic communications. Branching the rules of patient confidentiality results in immediate termination of the employee.
Preventing breaking the laws of patient confidentiality: The healthcare professionals should never discuss the patient’s health condition, tests, and financial information with the other staff members or with those that are not directly associated with the patient care.
