Mediterranean food consists of regional traditional fruits, vegetables, olive oil, milk products and sea food. Sometimes a glass or 2 of redwine can also be consumed along with this. Its also called as Mediterranean diet pyramid. The important factor is sharing meals with others and physical activity. It has an effect on the mood and mental health. The pleasure of eating healthy and delicious food with others is really a fruitful memory.
There are many health benefits for the mediterranean diet. It prevents heart diseases and stroke by decreasing refined and processed foods. It reduces ageing and prevents the risk of alzheimer's by antioxidant rich food items. It also increases longevity and rich in dietary fibre and protects againist type 2 Diabetes mellitus. This diet is different from american diet as red wine used instead of strong liquids and alcohol. Main difference is in the use of dietary fat. American diets are rich in saturated fat and refined carbohydrates while mediterranean diet is rich in monounsaturated fat. The american diet contains high redmeat, processed meat, refined grains, whole fat dietary producrs, sweets and desserts. Mediterranean diet doesnt contain refined grains, refined oils and refined sugars and its like prudent diet.
