List and describe five impediments to local participation in tourism planning.
The five impediments to local participation in tourism planning are as follows:
1. The knowledge level and level of education is a part which actually takes to a height to any sector. Low education levels and lacking in the knowledge about the tourism can have the thought in the local people mind that the tourism is not good job. Little knowledge is reluctant to participate in tourism actives by the local people.
2. The local people living conditions is an impediment to tourism. As the Poor living conditions and lack of financial support does not allow or come up people to take the tourism activities. Poor people does engage in agriculture activities or labor works.
3. The daily routine activities such as farming, fishing, dairying, rearing etc. makes the people engaged with it. Working with these activities people does not find the time for other tourism activities participation.
4. The perception of local community is that tourism is a seasonal job with low income. It does not provide the permanent solution to income gains.
5. The tourism department have the power to develop the ecotourism projects in any area without local support and participation. This is because authorities are more expertise in knowledge of tourism projects and have the power to implement those projects on ground level. Community leader plays a disparity with the local people regarding not intimating with proper information or hide the information for their benefit.
