____________is a feature of many microbial eukaryote life
cycles, which include a multicellular diploid phase and a
multicellular haploid phase.
A) Sporic life B) Conjugation C) Gametic D) Zygotic E) all of the
previous
The microbial eukaryotes include microorgansims such as algae, some fungi (most are macroscopic), and protista. These have eukaryotic cellular organization and most have a life cycle that alternates between haploid (n)and diploid (2n) phases. The body is called gametophyte and is hapoid in number. the male and female gametophytes produce gametes that fuse together to fertilize and form the zygote. The zygote is diploid in number and undergoes divisons to form the sporophyte (2n). The sprophyte contains the spore forming cells which undergomeiosis to form four spores which are haploid in number. These spores germinate to give rise to the haploid male and female gametophytes respectively. The sporic life is the common term used for such alternating life cycles as the spores produced give rise to the new organism. Examples are algae and higher eukaryotes such as plants
Conjugation is method of reproduction of bacteria where a pilus from one bacteria (donor) connects to another bacteria (recipient) and the DNA is transferred from the donor to the recipient bacterial cells. Conjugation also occurs in some protists, algae, and fungi.
Gametic life cycle involves diploid organisms which only produce the haploid gametes (egg and sperms) to form the zygote (2n) that leads to the development of the complete organism. This form of life cycle is evident in higher eukaryotes of animal kingdom and in some protists.
Zygotic life cycle involves the formation of the zygote as the only diploid stage in the entire life cycle. The organism itself is haploid. The zygote undergoes meiosis to form the haploid cells again. This life cycle is followed by protists and fungi.
So the correct option is A) Sporic life.
An illustration of the sporic life is as follows:
