Expert Solution

Self concept refers to how one thinks about, evaluates or perceives themselves in terms of their behavior, abilities, and unique characteristics.Self concept generally constitutes of self image, self esteem and ideal self. There are theories like social identity theory or Carl roger's self concept theory that readily define self concept in different variations.I believe that self concept is an amalgamation of social interaction, self emotional awareness, physical looks, academic aspects and family opinion.I agree that the manner in which one is raised is important for acquiring a positive self-concept.As the beliefs or schema of an individual starts developing at the time he/ she starts observing and interacting with the family members. The talks of people, how the child is called, the views' of his/ her parents or significant others , play a crucial role in shaping the self concept. So if its shaped with positive attitude, gratitude, acceptance, and contentment then one might develop a positive self concept, otherwise, hostility, blaming, neglect will only cause a negative self concept.

Good Luck!
