A constructive and continued school climate encourages academic
achievement of students and healthy progress. A positive school
climate also promotes retention of teachers, which inturn improves
success of students. climate data can be used by schools to
encourage eloquent workforce, student, and family engagement—and to
improve the societal, emotive, moral, civic, and academic skills
and characters that helps to succeed in school and in life.
How to Measure Climate
There are four essential dimensions and ways to improve the
school climate are as follows
- Rules and norms - rules about physical violence and verbal
abuse must be clearly communicated and with the consistent
implementation.
- Physical safety – A sense of security from any type of harm in
the school must be encouraged.
- Societal and emotive security –security of students from any
type of verbal abuse, exclusion, and teasing must be
implemented
- Support for learning - Concerned teaching practices, for
example positive feedback and opportunities to demonstrate
knowledge and skills in a variety of ways should be
encouraged.
- Civic and Social education - social and civic knowledge and
skills, like resolution of conflict, taking responsibility,
listening effectively, and proper decision making should be
developed.
- Respect for diversity - Mutual respect for individual
differences at all levels of the school should be taught and
encouraged
- Social support -An environment of cooperative and credulous
relationships among adults and peer relationships for academic and
personal support should be encouraged.
- Institutional Environment
- School engagement - Constructive recognition with school, sense
of closeness, and rules for comprehensive involvement in school
life for students and families must be done.
- Physical settings - Hygiene, discipline, and adequate
facilities and resources should be provided.
Schools can use the above dimensions to encourage engagement
between students, employees, and family to improve the societal,
emotive, moral, civic, and academics to prosper.
