TEDs or Thrombo -embolus deterrent stockings are also known as compression stockings or antiembolism. stockings helps to reduce the risk of developing a deep vein thrombosis or blood cloting in your lower leg.
High compression stockings with 30-40mm hg are effective. generally the highest level of compression ie, 20-60 mm hg that the patient can tolerate is likely to be the most beneficial.
For measuring knee high compression TEDs make the patient to sit on a chair with your legs at a 90 degree angle and find your widest part of your calf
Measure arround your angle , this measurement is called the circumference place the measuring tape at the narrowest part of the ankle, above the ankle bone.
For measuring high thigh TEDs measure the upper thigh circumference at gluteal furrow.
Measure the calf circumference at its widest part , measure the entire leg measurement from gluteal furrow to the base of the heel.
When vericose veins and swelling are present above the knee, then a thigh high TEDs will be recommended as a practical choice.
