2. Two normal parents have a son that is a carrier for hemophilia (an X-linked recessive disorder) and has Kleinfelter Syndrome.

a. Write out the cross as described above illustrating the genotypes and phenotypes of the parents and child.

b. Did the non-disjunction event occur in 1) mother, 2) father, or 3) could have occurred in either of the two parents?

c. Did the nondisjunction event occur in 1) Meiosis I, 2) Meiosis II, or 3) could have occurred in either Division during Meiosis.

Expert Solution

2.a. the son of two normal parents is a carrier for haemophilia and has klinefelter's syndrome. The cross between the two parents is as follows

Parents 44+XY(normal man)    44+XXXh (carrier haemophilic woman with trisomy of X chromosome)

Gametes (22+X) (22+Y) (22+X) (22+XXh)

Offspring (44+XX), (44+XXXh), (44+XY), (44+XhXY)

the result is 1 normal girl(44+XX), 1 haemophilic carrier trisomic girl(44+XXXh)

1 normal boy(44+XY), 1 haemophilic carrier boy with Klinefelter's syndrome(44+XhXY)

b. According to the given question The non disjunction event has occured in mother,as a result an abnormal egg is produced with genotype(22+XXh) that fuses with a normal sperm (22+Y). But the non-disjunction event may occur in father , mother or in either of the two parents with equal possibility.

c. The non-disjunction event occur in Meiosis-I, as true reduction in the number of chromosome in the  gametes cell of the parents take place in this stage.
