Describe how the concepts of leadership and management differ from each other. In what areas do they overlap? Explain how the goals of management and leadership may sometimes overlap. As a nurse leader, do you believe you can expand your influence to create change by taking advantage of this overlap? Explain your answer.
Leadership means leading a people in their own way to attain certain organizational goals.Management means managing or controlling or ruling the group to attain the organizational goal.A good leader will increase the worker's skill and ability to achieve goal. But a manager his focus only on to goal achievement not on worker's betterment. This is the difference.Areas they overlap is whichever way they proceed to attain the goal their roles are same.sometimes even the managers can be good leaders to lead his group. To achieve the organizational goal is the motive for both leaders and management. Its not possible, as a nurse leader you will lead your team or unit and ensures safe and quality nursing care.As this your role it is enough to attain the goals. But you cannot make much influence. Nurse leader and nurse manager their roles are definitive hence such overlap will not be occur.A nurse manager is the one who will be specially appointed from the management side to meet organizational goals.Hence she will charges the entire nursing units. She focus on the all nursing activities. A nurse leader can suggest a change in organization. But only the managers can make much influence. Overlap is not possible in nursing.
