The US government and the constitution of US gave Native Americans territories in permanency. Yet, Andrew Jackson massacred and forced Native Americans out of these territories and mandated the Cherokee to march in severe winter weather to what now is Oklahoma (“Trail of Tears.”) Discuss these US Government actions with other students.
The president Andrew Jackson signed an act, named as Indian Removal Act in 1830 to force native Americans out of their own land and areas and towards the area that is named as Oklahoma. The whole draconian event in the History of USA is also remembered as trail of tears. It original issue behind the removal of these native Americans was the greed shown by the White Americans who wanted to capture the fertile land, owned by then native Americans. To do it, the president and his administration worked to form the legal act, even if the Supreme Court of Law in the USA, opposed this legal act as it was against the rights and ownership given to these native Americans by the US constitution. But, president Andrew Jackson did not follow it and worked to drive its own people out of their territories. Earlier presidents were trying to make these native Americans to become more civilized, speak English language and understand western methods, economics and others so that they become more compatible with the white Americans. But, White Americans did not follow it for long and on the basis of their demand, president Andrew Jackson acted to vacate the land and gave its ownership to the white Americans.
