it is a process of adapting something new in oneself, if for e.g native americans culture is much much different from the Asian subcontinent region, their cuisines, language, art, taste etc, so if people of native america migrate to subcontinent region, then he /she must adapt himself to survive in the new conditions , so this adapting conditions needed to survive in foreign place is known as assimilation.
