Children's literature is one of the most prominent and important aspects in the field of English literature. English literature for children is not only recommended to the children to read but also to the adults. Children's literature brings creativity in the minds of the people and helps them in their personal development.

Why adults should read children's literature?

There can be two reasons for the adults to read the literature of the children. Reading the books written for the children helps in understanding the psychology of the children and how to deal with them. The literature helps the adults to understand how the small and important lessons of life like not lying to anyone can be imbibed into the minds of the children (Fadiman, 2016).

The second reason for adults to go through children's literature is to keep themselves alive. The innocence, purity, and joy from the literature keep the people alive.

Children's literature and genre

There are multiple genres under the children's literature. Classics, poetry, information, fiction, history, and fantasy are some of the genres that are preferred by the people. Among all the mentioned genres, fiction is my favorite genre that I will always prefer to pick up and read. The stories and characters are so gripping in these books that they interest me to pick them up always.

I wish that out of all these genres, I had given a little bit more emphasis on the historical genre of the books. Being a little drab and uninterested in the history subject led me not to pick up any of the child literature books related to history. Now when I have to teach my children or give a reference for some historic past, I feel it a bit difficult.

Outcomes of reading children literature

I feel post reading the literature books for children I have learned new anecdotes and references to give to the children in the school and at home. I can now interest the students for a long period of time and grasp their attention for a longer period. I have given suggestions to my own children and people at home to pick up at least one book of child literature and give it a read (Preston, 2020).

Changes to family and class post-reading

After reading the books for child literature we always tend to have a discussion in the class and in the family. We apply the discussion formula in the classroom (Prickett, 2012). Though the class I teach and the people at my home are way above the age to read child fiction, we always pick up one book in one month and give it a read. Post it we have a discussion and try to bring out more themes and ideas from the book and how it can be applied in real life.

My children book collection

If I had a sum of $500 to spend on the books, my collection would surely include J.K Rowlings' Harry Porter Series, the entire collection Famous Five and Secret Seven by Enid Blyton, classics like Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Heidi, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, etc
