  1. With regard to the self-driving car, and the research conducted by the Moral Machine project; provide your own ranking for the following (1= most important to save; 9= least important to save).
  1.

# Ranking

Category

Sparing the young

Sparing the fit

Inaction (doing nothing)

Sparing the most (#) people

Sparing the lawful

Sparing humans over animals

Sparing pedestrians

Sparing women

Sparing people of higher social status

  1. Which group did you prioritize as most important? Which group was the least important? Provide your rationale for these two placements.
  1. Would you consider purchasing a self-driven car that was designed to save other people (pedestrians, other cars with people) over you and your passengers? Why or why not?

        /2

  1. What is your biggest fear about how advancements in Artificial Intelligence are progressing? Answer in a detailed paragraph.

Solutions

Expert Solution

(A) 1 - Most important

Answer - Sparing the most people - Because as the quoute says 'its not about how many lives you lose, its about how many lives you save'. When in a situation where a self driving car algorithm has to make a decision I will always go with saving the most number of people as it seems the most ethical thing to do having less people crying over someone's loss.

2- Least Important,

Answer- Inaction(Doing nothing) - Its always better to take appropriate action under any situation than just sitting behind and doing nothing. You never know who you might save and who you might end up losing but atleast you would know that you made your best effort.

(B) I would like to program the AI algorithm such that it takes note of how many passengers are in the car and how many people are on the road and other cars and go with the highest number of lives that will be saved. Its better to save 10 pedestrians over a single person that is sitting in the car. So yes I will purchase a self driving car that saves other people over me in a given situation.

(C) Being a computer engineer I can truthfully say that Artificial Intelligence is most diverse and innovative field that anyone can dive into. But Artificial Intelligence has its own risks if not handled properly. Currently human race is at a stage where Artificial Intelligence can either prove as a blessing or a curse. Artificial Intelligence has been spread into almost every technology you use ranging from home automation, self driving cars, Andro-Humanoid robots and many more. Artificial Intelligence can help us explore the Interstellar space and the more obvious secrets of the Earth itself. But it is also true that if the model training and testing are not kept in check than Artificial Intelligence has the potential to change the world in a good way or bad way. We all have seen the Terminator Franchise and how AI is the antagonist making the world slave to its technology. While the movie is too futuristic it may help us keep the AI constraints in check because at the end you never know.
