Provide 4 reasons why students should study infant reflexes?
A reflex action is an involuntary , immediate response to a particular stimulus. It is very important to learn these reflex actions to a student because of the following reasons.
1. Infant reflexes are very important because they tell you about the health of the infant nervous system.
2. Students should study about infant reflexes because there are many reflexes which we do not see in the adult individual. For example Moro reflex, sucking reflex (sucks when area around mouth is touched). A reflex that is still present even after certain age by which it should have disappeared is a sign of defect in nervous system.
3.Because there are many reflexes in the infant, you can understand the reflexes better by studying the infant reflexes.
4. All the reflexes that we see in an infant are inborn reflexes. They are not learnt during the course of life. Reflexes that are learnt during the course of life are called acquired reflexes. So to identify and distinguish the two types of reflexes, it is important to study infant reflexes.
