answer these two questions

1. Recent developments made in packed and fluidized bed columns

2.Why natural processes are irreversible, explain by taking real life examples.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The recent development in packed and fluidised bed columns includes incorporation of computational fluid dynamic analysis to analyse flow patterns and interphase contact, which could improve underlying mass transfer phenomena and heat transfer rate for better control and stability.

2. The third law of thermodynamics imply that the entropy of the universe always increases. A system may have decrease in entropy during a process, but the system+ it's surroundings = universe will always have increase in entropy or zero increase in case of perfectly reversibly process.

Consider the cooling of a cup of hot tea, it loses heat to it ambient surroundings. In terms of entropy the surrounding has an increase in entropy.

But the heat won't move from cold ambient air to hot tea, which corresponds to decrease in entropy of surroundings as well as the tea, which is in clear violation of third law.

In this view, all natural process has direction which is irreversible.
