Can you give 2 othere examples of a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical, there uses and desirable radiological and biological properties.
e.g - sodium pertechetiate 99m (please don't pick this one again);
1.Technetium -99m-MDP
USE-Widely used to detect bone metastasis associated with cancer
Biological properties-Biological half life of technetium -99m is 1 day. Used for scanning procedures which collect data rapidly but keep total patient radiation exposure low.
Emits low energy gamma radiation which minimises damage to tissues
Quickly eliminated from body
Radiological Properties-Can be changed into number of oxidation states
It can form tracers by being incorporated into a range of biologically-active substances to ensure that it concentrates in the tissue or organ of interest.
2. Sodium Chromate
USE-It is used in determmining red blood cells in human body
Biological Property-Physical half-life of 27.7 days
The specific gamma ray constant for Cr 51 is 0.19 R/hour-millicurie at 1 cm.
The first half-value layer is 0.20 cm lead (Pb)
Radiological Property-
The chromium in this agent is present as the dianionic chromate ion in which form it appears to bind to the red blood cell
Chromium is excreted in urine.
Once liberated by elution or erythrocyte senescence, chromium 51 is not available for relabeling of red cells.
