Pick an organization/firm you are familiar with, and search for their mission statement. Please reproduce (copy/paste) their mission statement and please critique that mission statement. (Is it too restrictive? Is it too loose? Is it just right? What makes it so?).
An organization that I am familiar with is PepsiCo. The company’s mission statement is:
“To provide consumers around the world with delicious, affordable, convenient and complementary foods and beverages from wholesome breakfasts to healthy and fun daytime snacks and beverages to evening treats”.
PepsiCo’s mission statement is just right. The statement is specific with regards to its key stakeholder i.e. its customers. The company strives to be different by providing various beverages and snacking options to its customers. Secondly the statement is not too long and points the relevant aspects with short sentences. Most importantly PepsiCo’s mission statement is realistic and hence employees will be able to relate to why the company exists and what will be their role to achieve the objectives of the company. Lastly PepsiCo’s mission statement creates a long term picture and hence will be able to stand the test of time.
